Anti-Occupy Guy VS. Bodhi Jones (Debate)

@StopOccupy: Occupy Wall Street is a Misinformed Fraud: This is what they want, to create, a crisis so that they can offer a solution. your falling into a trap. Wall Street Is Not To Blame!

Me: I think you’re missing the point… it’s not such a narrow movement. Enough is enough and it starts at the top! Wall Street Seemed Like A Good Place To Start.

Me: Large corporations currently own our government via the use of Lobbyists. Today corporations have more rights than a human being has.

Me: In a truly capitalist system Wall Street, Opec & Big Banks wouldn’t have been bailed out with Tax Payers $$$, that is the definition of socialism.

@StopOccupy: Thank you that is exactly what conservatives have been saying for the last 3 yrs. Obama is enacting a socialist style government

Me: It’s not Obama’s policies… it goes way deeper than Obama, the system is completely flawed. It’s not a right or left issue.

Me: it’s a world issue. The Capitalist need to consistently increase profit margins every quarter can’t sustain itself any longer.

@StopOccupy: You can argue that Unions and special Interest groups own our government as well Why don’t you protest the unions ?

Me: Because they lobby for the average everyday worker, those who make the world keep ticking. Im a humanist. Do you choose profit over people?

@StopOccupy: OK. What is your solution to big corporations How would the “humanist” Save the world?

Me: Honestly. It probably won’t ever happen but I believe for starters: it should be illegal for Corporations to lobby politicians. Government is for the people!

@StopOccupy: so you support the #Teaparty that’s one of their main beliefs

Me: At their core, I guess they’ve got some valid points but sadly the whole system really just needs to be scrapped. That’s why folks are so fed up!

Me: I just think much of the world has had enough of this super cold “shark-like” corporate greed. We’re all scraping by while the slimy 1% keep getting richer!

@StopOccupy: Cold “shark-like” corporate greed? Whats is corporate greed in your eyes? what you said sounds like a slogan. How do they take your money?

Me: Well, when their unchecked greed ran em into problems who bailed em out? Tax payers did.

@StopOccupy: the whole system may just needs to be scrapped? You mean capitalism ??

Me: Well, More so on the governmental end of things… Even elections have become a joke due to media and money.

Me: But with all do respect I don’t believe capitalism works. At what price do you choose profits gained over the greater human good?

Me: it’s not even about the good of the “Company” and it’s staff anymore… it’s about filling the CEO’s & stock holders pockets at all costs!

Me: it’s a real mess… In my estimation this #occupy movement was inevitable. The corporate greed just can’t keep on going this way.

Me: This may be way out there for you, but deep in my heart & apparently in a lot of hearts. The time for mass change has come!

@StopOccupy: what other system has done as much as quickly & that raised the living standards of people better then capitalism?… Socialism?

Me: Is This Socialist? “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”

@StopOccupy: Go into the poorest naborhoods in the U.S or Canada you see Ps3, Big-screen TVs, iPods, people are not exactly dieing in the streets…

Me: have you been down in the poorest neighbourhoods in the U.S? or have you just seen the “statistics” on CNN and FOX?

@StopOccupy: I was in Central LA in July, lots of soup lines and tents no one dying of starvation though. I seen kids with ipods and new air Jordans on.

Me: Ok man… I’m not going down this road with you. You’re wrong.

@StopOccupy: Are you aware that these “bailouts” or should i say loans!… that you Occupiers are whining about were almost all paid back with interest!?

Me: OK. Do your research good sir. The “Bail Outs” were sneaky! Example: GM received an estm. 52 billion… 5 billion of which was considered loan $. so yeah they payed the “loan” back.

@StopOccupy: Well if what you say is true… That was the deal they made I guess…

Me: Ummm Ok… In what shape do you imagine the earth and it’s people will be in, In the year 2050 If things carry on exactly as they are?

@StopOccupy: I dunno, explain to me your demonic production of 2050 lol

Me: I can’t fully detail the downfall of mankind in 140 characters but…

Me: I believe that a few large corporations will completely own our governments which in turn will allow them to own us and our planet… and it get’s a hell of a lot worse after that.

@StopOccupy: I don’t think so. Sounds like a sci-fi plot, you watch too many movies.

@StopOccupy: Why is it that 90% of these people #occupying and #whining, are liberals and far left-ers?

Me: I don’t think that’s true at all… the movement encompasses a very broad base of people.

Me: I do think that “Liberals” may generally have a bit more compassion for their fellow man / environment though…

@StopOcuppy: Liberals are more compassionate ? Ummm nope… their more naive!

@StopOccupy: This burnout fringe movement already tried n failed in the 60’s

Me: Sadly yes. The 60’s movement was crushed by the same kinda of political/media driven disinformation about the cause. “Hippies”“Drug Addicts”“Bums”“Fringe Radicals”“No Plan” etc.

Me: but it won’t fail this time. With the internet & social media, we’ll form a much stronger alliance & message. Believe me, people have had it!

Me: and this time the middle class and poor form a way larger mass now than in the 60’s. We’ve got a much wider, diverse base.

@StopOccupy: yeah well, #occupywallstreet is still dis-information. A bunch of uninformed A holes, its not about the banks or corporations… it’s about the democrats and their failed polices.

Me: Look man, the system Is broken. Forget this partisan crap about “the Democrats failed Policies”… We Can No Longer Stand For Corporate Capitalist Pigs Running Our Government, right or left!

Me: With no checks or balances on corporate greed. where does it stop? Just rape n pillage at all costs?

@StopOccupy: Rape n pillage is a little extreme…

Me: Is it? If Corporations buy the law makers & regulations, why would they stop? Capitalism feeds on growing profits… right?

@StopOccupy: You just don’t see it, this is class warfare. and Obama is just gonna use it to rally his campaign, it’s an election year coming up ya know…

Me: oh man. I see it… and I know Obama’s gonna start using it to beat his campaigning drum. He’s a snake oil salesman too. #theyareallpuppets

Me: this is why nothing can get done. this is why the world want’s nothing to do with investing in USA. The government is bought and sold.

@StopOccupy: ok well, one thing… look up a guy named Stephen Lerner he’s the one whole started this whole #occupywallstreet thing.

Me: huffingtonpost.com/stephen-lerner this article on Lerner seems solid to me… what’s your beef with the man?

@StopOccupy:  stephen learner who want to organize a collapse of the financial system youtube.com/watch?v=JnakdR…

@StopOcuppy: according to Lerner, there would be days of rage in ten cities around JP Morgan Chase signally the beginning of the anti-banking jihad.

Me: I send you a huffington post article and you send me a youtube link to some nut job’s “channel” come on… that’s rubbish.

@StopOcuppy: huffington post really that’s were you get your news? i have no idea what the “channel” is just found the vid there… The Media is all Left wingers anyway.

Me: hmmm. not gonna get into this with you. I feel like the media on both sides left n right have twisted us all up…

@StopOccupy: So you blindly follow a movement you know nothing about you dont know who started it, why except it? Are you just out for good intentions?

@StopOccupy: I have to give it to em tho, it is vary sneaky of them, vary deceptive!

Me: did you listen to what the man was saying?

@StopOccupy: Yeah, he says crash the financial system. he’s an Obama political adviser YOU are part of the Obama campaign and you didn’t even know it.

Me: well, first off I’m Canadian… and second, you sir are starting to sound like the “Radical Fringe” you are so against.

Me: The financial system has already collapsed! sorry… we are just way too far off to come to any semblance of middle ground here.

Me: PS. The system here in Canada is quickly becoming as messed up as it is in the U.S…

@StopOccupy: You Only say that because you have a conservative in power if it were the other way around you would only blame the corporations.

Me: No way… I would never write any politician in our era a blank cheque. The system is toast. #left #right #up or #down

@StopOccupy: Well, I’m still saying that the #occupy movement is the left wings #teaparty is that true or not?

Me: Not sure I agree with that… I don’t believe this movement is fully political in nature (not Right vs Left anyway)…

Me:  it’s born out of our complete lack of faith in democracy and frustration with the entire system. It’s spans a much wider base than that of The Tea Party.

Me: The media and the politicians are making this movement into whatever suits their agenda. It’s really just fed up people taking back their rights and freedoms!

Me: Goes back to the humanist thing, remember ;)

@StopOccupy: well you have to come up with new system first before you try to inact change you cant just say it does not work change it.

Me: Democracy is: Government of the people, by the people, for the people… maybe that would work? yes? no? #problemsolved

Me: Right Now Unfortunately… Democracy is: Government of the corporate, by the corporate, for the corporate.

Me: we may all be a bit “naive”… but I tell you, if things for some strange reason find a way to change. you’ll be better off for it too!

@StopOccupy: You could be right, It is messed up. I hope it changse, I still bet the Republicans wouldn’t have us in this mess in the first place… ya sure got me thinkin tho…

Me: Alright. Let’s call it the end of round #1… I now follow you & look forward to continuing the dialogue. We all want good for this planet and it’s people right?!

@StopOccupy: Sure. Fair enough, talk later Bodhi.

Peak Performance Blog #9

Only one week left in the Peak Performance Project…and I’m scrambling to complete my final report, while touring across the country, and I need online votes in a big way! If you haven’t voted yet, please take a sec to do it up. It would mean the world to me. The past two+ weeks have been an absolute whirlwind, here’s what I’ve been up to:

Last week I was contacted by www.rhythmzonegame.com and they’ve selected 4 songs from “Where Does The Time Go?” to add to Rhythm Zone (An online version of guitar hero). The game has over 30 million users and is about to be added to facebook, so I’m super stoked to see my tunes play a part in such a popular game!

This week I was asked to perform a special 4 song set for CBC Television at The Habitat in Kelowna during The 2010 Break Out West Music Festival and Conference.

And on November 4th we’ll be performing at Creative Mix a giant think tank with an amazing panel of speakers, including Dan Mangan.

Had a great interview and article written in Edmonton’s Vue Weekly and you can check it out online here: http://vueweekly.com/music/story/street_songs/

In other awesome news, I was featured as Indie Track Of The Day on Explore Music with Alan Cross, who I really admire. I love The Ongoing History Of Rock series that he does. http://exploremusic.com/indie-track/bodhi-jones-i-used-to-know-how/

On top of all that “Where Does The Time Go?” received a great review! 4 out of 5 stars from www.pressplus1.com http://www.pressplus1.com/music/timeless-an-interview-with-bodhi-jones.html

The month of Rocktober has been an awesome ride and I’ll be posting a full tour blog when I make it back home on October 24th. Stay tuned for a tour documentary too!

Peak Performance Blog #8

4 months have passed since The Peak Performance Project Top 20 were announced and oh what a 4 months it has been!…but there’s no time for reminiscing here, the 5th and final month of the PPP is going to be straight up madness. Before I get into how crazy month 5 is gonna be here’s what I’ve been up to since my last blog.

Firstly thanks to all of you who voted me into the top 5 of Snow Seeker’s Fresh Trax competition! Our prize was 2 really rockin’ shows at Canada Place and Whistler. We played the Canada Place show last week and are super stoked on the Whistler show in November!

A few weeks back I met up with interview sensation Adam Lee of Island Soapbox. He came all the way from Victoria right to my busking corner and quizzed me on Life, music, and of course The Peak Performance Project. Check out the article: Read It Here!

Here’s a few other online interviews/reviews to check out: I was just featured on CrazedHits.com, reviewed on BabySue.com, and was added to AcousticRoundtable.com.

In other news…As part of this years Peak Performance Project, we’ve all (Top 20) been asked to align ourselves with a BC based charity. The decision was an easy one for me as my dad’s been battling cancer for about 2+ years now. It’s been so hard to watch him face this terrifying battle with such courage and positivity. I chose to join forces with The BC Cancer Foundation, they do so many unbelievably positive things for those with all different types of cancer.

I’ve set the insanely high goal of raising $5000.00 so I’m definitely gonna need all the help I can get. Every dollar counts, a donation of any amount would be awesome! Please visit my pledge page to: DONATE. A pledge of $20 or more will get you a signed copy of my latest album “Where Does The Time Go?”.

Hmmmm…what else has been goin’ on?

The 1st Annual Bodhi Jones Cover Song Challenge is almost over. The Challenge has received a combined viewership of 7000 and counting!…but we still need 2 entries before I can wrap up the contest. Check it out here: Cover Song Challenge and get your covers in asap!

Peak Performance Blog #7

What a crazy month it’s been! I’ve been so busy in the best way possible, unfortunately my blogging has suffered due to the madness but I’m here now with a few minutes to type and I’m gonna do my best to get ya all caught up.

It’s been just over a week since The Peak Performance Project Bootcamp ended and oh what a time it was. Looking back on the week that was, is a bit of  a blur. It was like a big burst of creative flame and then in an instant…Poof, it was over…but the memories are gonna last a life time for sure. Some of the highlights for me would have to be: Bunking with the guys from Said The Whale, great humans n great music makers too! Taking a ride on the Rock Ridge Canyon Zip Line (Watch Me Zip) was pretty awesome as well, but the best part was collaborating with Kyprios on a new tune. We recorded it in one of The Nimbus studios at around 3am on the second to “last night” and I’m super stoked to get it back from mixing n mastering! I’m pretty sure you’ll be hearing it on various radio stations very soon!

The last day of camp was filled with goodbyes and well wishes and jars full of loving words. It was a time to reflect, but it was also a time to remember…oh man, I’ve got a ton of work ahead of me if I wanna have a shot at making the top 5 of this Peak Performance Project. This feeling was amplified 10 fold for me because I only had 5 days to prepare for my big PPP Showcase at The Red Room. So Lachlan and I rushed home, took 2 days off to catch up on all the missed hours of sleep and then got rehearsing with the other band mates. The Red Room showcase was a huge success, the place was packed, everyone played their hearts out, and all was right in the world! You should definitely check these showcases out, it’s a chance to catch the peak top 20 doin’ what they do best, every thursday night for the next month from 8pm-2am. It’s a giant party and I’ll be there for all of em!

In other news here are some things I’ve been up to: I had a great interview with the folks from UnratedMusic.Com , I was selected to be one of the Top 25 Bands in The Snow Seekers Fresh Trax Competition click the link if ya don’t mind taking a sec. to vote, I’d really appreciate it and you’d be considered super awesome! Another super awesome thing that came up this past week was being featured on CBC’s Radio 3 Podcast with host Grant Lawrence, I also made The Georgia Straight’s Instant Play Listand as if all that wasn’t enough coolness for one week…I was asked to perform at this years annual Run For The Cure

As for up coming shows and touring, I’ve got a bunch of dates listed below:

In smaller news, The Vancouver Courier is running a full article about me in tomorrow’s paper (Friday, August, 20th). They talk to me about busking, The Peak Performance Project, Red Robinson’s Talent Show Down, and they even snapped a few photos!

On top of it all, busking has been going really really well, and more n more folks have been popping up at my shows, the momentums building and I’ve gotta say it feels so good, after all these years of blood, sweat, n tears! Peak Performance Blog #4

Time is flying by as per usual and The Peak Performance Project is heating up! On Thursday we were given our 5 Peak Performance Project Challenges: #1. Create an online/viral video #2. Re-make/cover a classic canadian song #3. Organize a street team/grass roots marketing campaign #4. Align yourself with a local charity and raise as much money as ya can #5. Put together a budget, outlining how you’d spend the $100.5 thousand dollars if you were to win the PPP. Needless to say there’s a lot of work ahead and it’s a bit frightening, especially as a solo artist.

This past week was a busy one. I launched my answer to PPP challenge #2, by creating The 1st Annual Bodhi Jones Cover Song Challenge, offering $260.50 cash money to the winners (contest closes August 22nd!) Please check it out here: www.youtube.com/bodhijones. I’ve also finished recording two brand new tracks which will complete my new album “Where Does The Time Go?”. You can check the new tunes out right here: “Wake Up!” - “Blood, Sweat, n Tears”…and last but not least here’s a few photo’s from a shoot I did with one of Ontario’s most talented up n coming photographers, Neville Black.

Thanks for reading, stop in next week to find out what’s up next for me!

Peak Performance Blog #3

The Peak Performance Project is rocking my world once again! After all the stress and madness of last years PPP, I swore that if I ever made it back in, I was gonna stay calm and work smarter than harder….but no such luck, I’ve gone straight back to crazy town! I’ve been stressing and constantly obsessing over how to make my mark in this years project. However with that being said, there hasn’t been a dull moment yet and things are going really well.

I’ve just been voted into Red Robinson’s Talent Show Down for this years star search at The PNE. 30 competitors were selected out of 500+ applicants. The contest is broken into three age groups and so I’ve got a 1 in 10 shot at winning $5,000 and gaining a ton of publicity! The most notable past winner of the event is Michael Buble, he took top prize back in 2002. Fingers crossed.

I also did an awesome interview with supper blogger Jax Said a few days ago, and you can check it out Right Here! On a different note….Over the past few months I’ve been growing more and more frustrated with politicians, corporate greed, and the devastation of our planet and it’s people…so I threw together a little slide show set to music, please Check It Out and pass it on to a friend. Thanks*

Talk to y’all next week, much love!

Peak Performance Blog # 2

It’s been just over one week since The Peak Performance Project Orientation and I’m feelin fine! I’ve signed on with Killbeat Music, an amazing publicity company and they’re gonna be doing a full scale cross Canada campaign for my new album! The publicity push will include television, radio, and print media. I’m super stoked! It’s time to build the BoJo buzz*

I’ve spent much of the last week in “The Bunker” recording two new tunes with Sir. Winston Hauschild. These tunes will be added to my latest Ep. to make it a full length record. We had such a blast recording the new songs and I think it’ll show. In my opinion “Wake Up!” and “Blood, sweat, and tears” are gonna be some of the best on the album. They’re both up-beat, up-lifting, and catchy as #@&! I can’t wait for people to get em on their iPods and in their car CD players!

Also two music videos are in the works, one for “I Used To Know How” and the other for “Work The Night Shift” both of which will be serviced to MuchMore Music and of course online. There’s lots more on the horizon and it’s really, really exciting!

Here’s a link to a recent interview I did for www.vanbroshow.com check it out! I hope you’ll drop by next week for my Peak Performance Blog # 3

Peak Performance Blog # 1

Well, this years PPP kicked off with a bang! Was almost late to the orientation but luckily my cabbie drove like a maniac, risking life and limb to get me to the Biltmore on time. Handed in my contract (serious stuff), picked up my BoJo name tag, and had my Peak Performance ID photo taken (much like my BC drivers license, no smile). Shook some babies kissed some hands and found my seat. Bob D’eith (Head Of Music BC) began to explain what was In store for us this year and I’ve been buzzin ever since (this year is going to be crazy awesome)! After being awarded our $3,500 base camp prizes, the great Dan Mangan dropped by to tell us a bit about the biz and a bunch about his wiz…(Confessions of a childhood bed wetter). We took a brief break for a few moments of awkward introductions and getting to know each other, then Tom Jackson blew my mind. Tom Jackson is a “Live Performance/Stage show producer” brought to us by Music BC to give a seminar on how to create a magical and memorable show. I learned so much during his 3 hr seminar and am now super stoked to shed some of my “Canadian humility” and take to the stage like I mean it! After Tom bid us farewell, it was time for the pizza and beer to make an appearance. Next was the industry shmooze portion of the day/night, I met some movers n some shakers, got on board with World Vision, and proceeded to get nicely drunkin (thanks Mr. D’eith for all the free drink tix, hope ya didn’t mind my many hugs). After a few hours of witty banter mixed with my gift for socially awkward moments…Adrian Glynn, The Left, and We Are The City rocked the house and reminded us all what this whole damn project is about, “It’s about the music” … However with that being said, there was still some partying to attend to, so armed with off-sales and a group of good party people (Adaline, Ben Sigston, Nat Jay, Doctor Boss, Freddie Mojallal, and 604, to name a few) we made our way to a near by house party and sang the night away. Day one was a day I won’t soon forget. www.peakperformanceproject.com

About Bodhi

Genre:  Alternative Pop

Similar Artists: David Gray, Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, James Blunt, and Raine Maida

Bodhi Jones spent his early years poor but happy with his mother and sister on Saltspring Island. He affectionately refers to it as a "1980's hippie paradise” and says spending his childhood there was like living a page right out of Huckleberry Finn. Shortly after his tenth birthday he and his mom moved from Saltspring to Vancouver in search of greater opportunity, during this time Bodhi felt overwhelmed by the big city and became very isolated. He was often sick and spent a lot of time home alone...it was during these pre-teen years that he truly discovered his passion for music.

Over the past 6 years, Bodhi has recorded 5 EP’s and 3 full length albums, selling over 20 000 copies while performing on the streets of downtown Vancouver. In 2009 Bodhi was selected as Virgin Radio's "BC artist of the month", voted into The Peak Performance Project's Top 20, and named Vancouver's best busker by The Georgia Straight. 2010 has brought even more exposure his way: Earning a second consecutive spot in The Peak Performance Project's Top 20 and is being played on 100.5 The Peak, CBC Radio One, Virgin, Citr and CJSFU. He also performed live on CTV's Canada Am and Global's Morning Show during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In April of 2010 he released a new full length album titled "Where Do We Go From Here?" Produced by Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas) and mixed by Shawn Cole (Bend Sinister, Yukon Blonde, and You Say Part! We Say Die!), this latest effort is a big step up sonically and truly showcases Bodhi's heart, honesty, and song writing talents. He's just completed his second western Canada tour and is planning a Cross-Canada tour this spring in support of his new album "Ordinary Madness".
